Martha Blanchfield
founder

Martha Blanchfield is founder of the SF Blue Tech group, which has as its mission to gather together like-minded ocean and water professionals in forums that educate, collaborate, invent and inspire action. SFBT members are founders and funders, educators and students, activists and advisors in the blue tech realm. Our future includes creation and management of a blue tech accelerator/incubator, blue speaker series, trade events, advisor panel and more.

While greasing start-up wheels at SF Blue Tech, Martha juggles a patchwork of part-time metiers, including crew member for the 96-foot 1928 classic motor yacht Electra; social media manager for STEM/STEAM non-profit Science Sailing Center, and provider of freelance public relations services. Some of her past PR clients: The Ocean Cleanup, SanDisk, Kingston, Salesforce and Zesty.ai. and World Ocean School.

For fun, she envisions herself as a sailboat racer, writer and photographer. And, in actuality a few years ago, she created RenegadeSailing.com. This site profiles international waterside lifestyles–with its content often poking fun at the loves and lives of sailors and boaters. Tropes such as Shakespeare for Sailors, $1M sailor pop art and the Impossible Sailing photo series are whimsical inventions beneath the Renegade umbrella.

Over the years, her more serious news, feature and sports articles and photographs have appeared in Nautique (Netherlands), SFGate.com, Points East, Classic Boat UK, Classic Yacht Magazine, J/Boats, Rangefinder, Latitude 38, Studio Photography & Design, AfterCapture, Adventure Sports Journal and PICYA. She produces the newsletter for San Francisco Master Mariner’s Benevolent Association.
