and warming waters that are driving wild fish
towards extinction.”

SF Blue Tech Septmber 2026 happy hour Wildtype CEO Justin Kolbeck

justin kolbeck

Justin Kolbeck is CEO of Wildtype, a San Francisco-based company which produces cultivated seafood. Wildtype was co-founded with cardiologist Arye Elfenbein to address the environmental impact of industrial fishing. Operating within the developing cellular agriculture vertical, the company’s first product is sushi-grade salmon saku. Wildtype has raised more than $100 million to scale production and introduce cultivated salmon.

Since the 19th century, doctors and scientists have grown cells for things such as organ transplants, vaccine development and cancer research. Wildtype takes the same development techniques and applies them to agriculture.

Kolbeck holds degrees from UC Berkeley, Yale School of Management and Sciences Po (formally the Paris Institute of Political Studies).

event venue

SF blue tech is indebted to community organizations that not only recognize the importance of local waterways and coastlines, but who also act. We are grateful to the board of directors and members of south beach yacht club for permitting us to host events at the club.

Located mid-city in the heart of san francisco’s emerging blue economy zone, this second-floor venue boasts one of the best views and a relaxed vibe, loft-like space that overlooks south beach harbor. Established in 1988, the club is home to more than 500 mariner members–making it the second-largest yacht club in the city.
