mCDR (marine carbon dioxide removal)
www.submarine.earth/
Now resident in San Francisco for nearly 25 years, Jonathan arrived by way of England, Italy, Australia and Japan. After growing up in the UK and earning two degrees at Cambridge, for several years he worked in various locations around the world in strategy consulting before founding his first company in Japan.
Jonathan will help sfbt members and guests understand the state of the science and technology behind marine CDR. He will explain the industry and its supporting players, the regulatory landscape, emerging ecosystem of carbon markets and carbon registries, and the exciting ways that AI and modern software techniques are supporting a revolution in ocean modeling.
He has started nine tech firms (three of which are still operating), including his most recent, Submarine, which is focused on ocean modeling for the emerging marine CDR industry.

why have a marine CDR industry vertical?
Widely regarded as one of the most promising avenues for removing excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, ocean-based approaches to CDR also bring vital co-benefits, including ecosystem restoration, reversal of ocean warming and acidification, and economic boosts to island nations. Marine CDR is at a very early stage, and important scientific questions remain, as does the most critical hurdle–reassuring a concerned public that marine CDR is safe and beneficial.
