SF Blue Tech October
Happy Hour Networking
October 11, 2023
5 – 7:30pm
South Beach Cafe
San Francisco
RSVPs for this event close on Tuesday, October 10 at 8pm
Special Guest
Come meet a sailor / climate campaigner who is scaling up ocean restoration efforts while cycling on global rivers and scooping trash. His business: developing low cost, autonomous, zero emission microplastic-extracting submersibles.
This meeting is for ocean and marine scientists, analysts, tech professionals, coastline stewards, blue tech funders and founders, sailors, plus students and educators dedicated to making a difference.
Aside from the usual time to network outdoors, we have added ‘take eco-action’ tabletop discussion indoors.
The SF Giants season is done, and no other major event will happen in the area that evening, so plenty of metered (night rate) parking can be found nearby.
Agenda for October Happy Hour
- Participate in environmental challenge tabletop discussions (RSVP required to comply with building capacity limit)
- All guests may enjoy outdoor networking
Guests are requested to be eco-conscious: bring name badge, reusable cup and utensils.
Food and drink available for purchase: oven pizza, sandwiches, salads, pasta, beer and wine, espresso drinks, desserts and more.
- Seaweed and society
Host: Jiwoon Hwang, PhD Candidate Department of Earth and Planetary Science, University of California, Berkeley
- The climate crisis is an ocean crisis–we cannot not act, but ocean carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies still need research.
- How do we move as fast as we can, as safely as we can?
Host: Jonathan Kirk, co-founder, CTO, CPO of Submarine.earth
- There is a very real and detrimental situation building up in North Bay estuaries.
- We need ‘outside the boat’ suggestions for what can be done to help wetlands and waterways.
Host: Martha Blanchfield, founder SF Blue Tech
